Liveblogging third debate (just kidding)

Posted in Uncategorized on October 15, 2008 by stinsonlives

This is where I will liveblog the debate tonight.

It begins at 8pm Central time. That’s 9pm for you East Coast communists and 6pm for you homoerotic hippies out west.

See ya then racists and socialists.

***

Watching on CBS and PBS. Phillies 1-0, top 2nd.

***

Uhh. So friends came over and I am going to hang out with them.

I don’t feel guilty because something tells me no one’s going to be reading this anyway.

I will, just for fun, watch the replay and say smartass things. Just not live.

An adult PUPPET murder mystery? Color me excited

Posted in Uncategorized on October 15, 2008 by stinsonlives

The Happytime Murders

The Hollywood Reporter, well, reports:

By Borys Kit
The Jim Henson Co. has picked up a spec that might signal a daring turn into adult territory for the company behind Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear.

“The Happytime Murders” is a comedic film noir murder mystery that will fall under the company’s Henson Alternative banner, a division that develops projects not intended for children. Brian Henson is on board to direct.

Written by Todd Berger from a story by Dee Austin Robertson and Berger, the story takes place in a world where humans and puppets co-exist, with the puppets viewed as second-class citizens. When the puppet cast of an ’80s children’s TV show called “The Happytime Gang” begins to get murdered one by one, a disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet — with a drinking problem, no less — takes on the case.
Brian Henson, Lisa Henson and Jason Lust are producing.

Robertson will executive produce.

This would not be the first time that Henson is delving into more adult fare. In 1982, the company made “The Dark Crystal,” which featured a dark tone and, in one scene, nudity. But “Happytime” also will have an absurdist and comedic quality to it, comparable to Broadway’s “Avenue Q,” and will take cues from such movies as “L.A. Confidential” and “Pulp Fiction.”

Berger, repped by the Kohner Agency and Kaplan/Perrone, wrote “Epic Proportions” for End Game Entertainment with John Landis directing and is writing the DVD project “Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five” for DreamWorks Animation.

UPDATE: There was nudity in Dark Crystal? I don’t remember that.

In the interest of impressing girls who like PBS

This is a good summation of the campaigns thus far. It offers equal time to each candidate’s strengths and weaknesses, including interviews from campaign advisers and Tom Daschle and Newt Gingrich (swoon). It also covers the primaries. Man, I miss those primaries.

Watch it if you have an hour or however long it is. Click the handily placed screenshot below:

Obama indicted

Posted in Uncategorized on October 15, 2008 by stinsonlives

Well, not really. While cruising my late night spooky conspiracy bookmarks, I found this post from HillBuzz that asserts there’s a big October surprise coming that could send Dear Leader down the river.

Hillbuzz writes:

The Sun Times today gave a major clue that Barack Obama will indeed go down with Tony Rezko, sooner rather than later. It looks as though Rezko is about to turn on Alexi Giannoulias, the 30-year old State Treasurer of Illinois (who was elected only because Obama backed him).

Here’s where all the clues are…and then we’ll walk you through the local Chicago politics on how today’s hint by the Sun Times has us convinced, for the first time ever, that prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald could indeed send Barack Obama to jail.

We need to repeat that: we never believed, until now, that Obama would go to jail for anything related to Rezko. Today, this breaking news about what Rezko is singing to the Feds about makes us reconsider all of that.

Barack Obama will serve a prison sentence in the next few years — because knowing Fitzgerald, there is no reason he would be going through all of this if that was not the targeted goal in the long term.

(1) Michael Sneed in her Sun Times column 10/10/08 had the following tidbit:

Sneed hears rumbles political fund-raiser/fixer Tony Rezko, who is now singing sweetly to the feds from his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, has been talking about his “dealings” with a Chicago bank, which has political connections.

(2) We just spoke with someone well-connected in Chicago politics who told us that the bank Sneed is talking about has to be Broadway Bank, which is owned by the politically-connected Giannoulias family. We were told that Sneed’s column confirms rumblings people we know heard independently that Tony Rezko is giving up the Giannoulias family to Patrick Fitzgerald — Rezko and the Giannoulias family are as close and tied together as anyone in Chicago could be. If Rezko is turning on them, then Rezko is going to give up Governor Rod Blagojevich and Obama too.

We don’t want to end up in cement shoes for implying anything here, but if you live in Chicago for any length of time, you hear rumors about Broadway Bank, the Giannoulias family, and insert Tony Soprano references here. Kapeech?

(3) So, Rezko is singing about the Giannoulias family and its longtime “business dealings” in Chicago, which would interest someone like Fitzgerald and the Justice Department, who have had a long ambition to crack Soprano-style business dealings in Chicago (the city known for Al Capone hasn’t changed much, really). The next plate to drop in this will be Fitzgerald then leaning on the Giannoulias family to give up someone bigger than them, who Fitzgerald once discussed in terms of hoping “he has the morals to do the right thing”, to paraphrase. We now believe that person Fitz was talking about is Barack Obama.

Halloween horror movies #1

Posted in Entertainment on October 14, 2008 by stinsonlives

Sporadically from now til Halloween, I’ll order you to view some horror movies that I think rock.

The Grudge.

When this movie was advertised, my thought was “It’s PG-13 and it’s got flippin Buffy in it. No thanks.”

But then I rented it and watched it alone in the dark after midnight and spent the next 48 hours shaking in a blanket while sucking my thumb. Seriously, it creeped me out.

I don’t believe in ghosts in real life, though. I think ghost sightings are just electrical phenomena misunderstood. But watching this made me almost believe. To keep me from going insane and hurling myself out the basement window, I had to keep reminding myself that it’s just a chick and kid in greasepaint. “It’s only makeup…it’s only makeup…Eeeek!”

The Howling

I watched this on TV as a kid and it scared the tacos out of me. There’s a scene about 3/4 in when an already freaky looking dude slowly changes into a werewolf in front of a woman and I could barely watch.

I rented it again as an adult and the creepy factor has faded a bit but it’s still probably the best werewolf movie of the last 30 years or so. The ending rocks.

Sex and the City: Even longer and more annoying DVD version

If there’s ever been a pop culture event to launch the Gender Wars this is it. Call me ignorant but I really don’t see how women love watching four girls act like gay dudes. Maybe if Mr. Big solved a murder with that old guy I’d be into it.

As it is, it’s excruciatingly long. I feel sorry for these characters for how miserably self-obsessed they are. And to make matters worse, the only cute one ends up fucking a bald pudgy Jew. Horrifying!!

UPDATE: When this was released in theaters, I made a deal with my then-girlfriend that I would go with her to see this if she went to see The Incredible Hulk. She responded that she didn’t really want to see Sex and the City but would really like to see Hulk.

Sometimes you just don’t know what you had til it’s gone. I think I heard that in a song.

Because black guys look alike

Terrence Howard is out of Iron Man 2 and Don Cheadle is in, apparently. According to various sources that I’m too lazy to link, Marvel and Howard failed to agree to financial terms.

Early word indicates that Cheadle and the House of Ideas have agreed on the payday but they’re still ironing out (get it?) exactly how many scenes must feature a close-up on Cheadle looking really concerned about something.

In other immature news, the buzz around The Avengers suggests the Hulk may actually be the villain of the film. This makes perfect sense as a live-action Thor vs Hulk is enough to make any fanboy go all squishy in the nether realm.

Pacman Jones has been suspended for a minimum of four weeks at the same time Tony Romeo is out with a (seriously?) broken pinky.

My Giants/Browns prediction went exactly opposite but that’s okay because it makes the Titans the only undefeated team in the league. See? Vince Young is a winner even he’s benched!!

Holy crap

I’ve never paid much attention to Amy Winehouse.

A lot of blogs are posting these types of photos with indignant arguments that she should be forced into rehab.

Why her? She’s just another one of the millions of drug addicts. The great thing about her is she made a pretty good CD and she has enough money to not suckle onto society.

She doesn’t have kids so fuck it.
